Trail tips
It is very important to wear good hiking boots along with clothing that is suited to the weather and to hiking. Under no circumstances should you forget to take along a hat, sun-block lotion, and sufficient water (each person will require a minimum of 3 litres a day).
Trail seasons
Hiking in this mountain zone is possible all year round.
Because of the high midday temperatures during November to February, it is advisable to start one’s hike early in the morning. Hikers will be more than well rewarded for their early start by the breathtaking ambience at this time of day.
During the winter months of June to August, one needs to be particularly aware of the shortened daylight hours. Nights can get very cold at this time of year.
Hiking is not only an unusual and multifaceted activity, it is also almost a slice of life philosophy in an age increasingly characterised by superficial entertainment, but longing for originality and naturalness.
By offering hiking, we would like to stimulate our guests’ enthusiasm in looking for adventure on foot for a change.
Nature of the trail area
The Naukluft Trail is characterised by a labyrinth of gorges and canyons that cut through the mountain. Most people follow the ancient, gently undulating, stony trails of herdsmen and zebras. The gorges and valleys are usually green, and water spurts forth at many sites.
In order to study this spectacular, practically uninhabited mountain landscape in more detail, the hiker can employ the services of a local guide, who know the Naukluft extremely well. One can choose amongst a range of hiking trails that are rated according to their degree of difficulty.
